Blake Nellis, he/him

I am an artist, educator, and improviser exploring the pleasures, fears, and mysteries we experience through the human body. My work centers on connection, identity, nature, and physical touch. Through photography, dance, and improvisation, I seek authentic expression and moments of spontaneous magic.

Much of my photographic work focuses on candid, playful portraits and Mother Nature. I am deeply inspired by the human form, often nude, creating safe, expressive spaces for subjects to embody their full selves. Rooted in somatic practices and choreographic exploration, I guide participants through improvised tasks in nature, capturing them with minimal interference. My process emphasizes presence, vulnerability, and the hidden layers of identity—those aspects we carry beneath the skin.

Photography is my way of honoring what’s visible and invisible in us: our power, our fears, our truth. By connecting deeply with my subjects—walking, talking, moving together—I create images shaped not by external ideals, but by the energy of each individual. My work invites both subject and viewer to look closely, feel deeply, and rediscover the wonder of being human.
